Rudd
I was unaware that we had any big Rudd in the Lake, but look at the size of this beauty. Big Rudd like this are as rare as hen's teeth these days, so this really is a special sight.
TIP - Whilst the weather is still warm and bright, try fishing maggot shallow under a crystal waggler - keep the bait going in with a catty to feed off the smaller fish and single out the bigger specimens.
Tench
The 'Lagoon', as the Lake was once known, was/is famous for its Tench. You rarely catch one under the 5lb mark, and a special few go over the 8lb mark at this time of year. Float fished maggots and worms are as good as any modern method, but most anglers catch them whilst waiting for the Carp to move in.
TIP - Tench can become preoccupied with smaller baits, making them hard to hook at times - keep your free offerings the same as your hookbait to better your chances when they arrive in your swim.
Koi
Followers of our social media will have seen the orange Koi being held aloft by our TARGET20 rod, Jake, and now again by MONTHLY PASS holder Owen. However, this is one of the smaller Koi in the 'pond' with a couple of lighter coloured fish who have not seen the bank so far this year.
TIP - the Koi and Ghosties are easy to see - don your polaroids, grab the floater gear and laser target the fish you want to tempt!
For the rest of the summer*, we will reward every successful capture of a Koi or Ghost Carp from Wicksteed Carp Lake with a free bait bundle worth £10
*until September 30th, 2022. All captures must be supported with a good quality photograph.
